It is designed as a tool to assist coaches in identifying and dealing with abuse, neglect, harassment, and bullying in sport. As a parent, ask if your coach has their Respect in Sport Certificate. As a coach, encourage the adults around you to take this simple on-line course.
2. Make Ethical Decisions
Canada has a National Coaching Certification Program (NCCP) that offers a course called Make Ethical Decisions (MED). This course helps coaches identify the legal, ehtical, and moral implications of difficult situations that present themselves in the world of team and individual sport. As a parent, ask if your coach has taken MED. As a coach, encourage the adults around you to take this simple course.
3. Screening Process
Parents and coaches should look to get involved with organizations or activities that have screening policies. Good screening processes can include volunteer interviews, reference checks, criminal record checks and child abuse registry checks. | ...post-secondary institution and $2,000 to a student in their second or subsequent year in a post-secondary institution. These scholarships are subject to confirmation of Sport Manitoba’s funding from the Province of Manitoba.
The Bud Tinsley Sport Leadership Scholarship was created in memory of Robert (Bud) Tinsley by his family and friends to recognize a Manitoba student athlete who demonstrates similar leadership traits that were attributable to Bud. Bud was introduced to organized football in high school and his athletic career and contributions persisted from there. Bud had a reputation as a fearsome tackler and played that position for the Winnipeg Blue Bombers from 1950-1960, serving as the perennial team captain and played in Grey Cup championships in 1958 and 1959. His numerous awards included: induction into the Winnipeg Blue Bombers Hall of Fame, the CFL Hall of Fame and four time inductee into the Manitoba Sports Hall of Fame. In addition to his outstanding athlete results, Bud gave tirelessly of himself as active volunteer leader with the Shriners, community groups and the sport community throughout his life. The recipient of this $500 scholarship will be selected from among the successful MFFS Scholarship recipients.

Princess Royal Pan Am Scholarship

The Princess Royal Pan Am Scholarship Endowment Fund provides financial support for Manitoba's high performance athletes in their pursuit of excellence at the national and international levels of competition while serving as a tribute to commemorate the Manitoba visit of Her Royal Highness the Princess Royal in 1999.
The Princess Royal Pan Am Scholarship awards two (2) scholarships per year valued up to $3,000 each to one male and one female high performance athlete enrolled in a post-secondary institution in Manitoba.

| Children's Fitness Tax Credit |
| ...The Federal Children’s Fitness Tax Credit is worth up to $500 for each child under the age of 16 for fees paid in 2011 “relating to the cost of registering your child in a prescribed program of physical activity”.
Eligible programs must be ongoing, supervised and be suitable for children. They must also develop cardio-respiratory endurance and flexibility, balance, or muscular strength or endurance.
Sport and physical activity programs recommended by Canadian Sport for Life should all be eligible for the tax credit. There’s a simliar tax credit for children’s artistic and cultural programs.

The Winnipeg Youth Soccer Association, which includes representation from the district associations, has been working for more than a year with the Manitoba Soccer Association to develop a new Winnipeg-focused plan for the Wellness to World Cup Long Term Player Development program (LTPD).
LTPD is a national program for soccer development, training, competition and recovery based on biological age (physical maturity) rather than chronological age. It is player-centered, coach-driven and supported by administration, sport science and sponsors alike. By ensuring fun playing experiences for children, a suitable player development pathway for youth, and opportunities for lifelong participation for all players regardless of age, gender, ability or disability, LTPD provides a framework for the growth and success of the beautiful game in Canada.
