The Polar Bear Dare is a new twist on an age old event. Traditionally, in a "polar bear swim", participants would voluntarily jump into frigid waters for the "thrill" and to raise funds for charity. The Manitoba Action Plan for Sport (MAPS) is Sport Manitoba's long-range strategic plan. MAPS identifies the highest priority areas in amateur sport in Manitoba and drives the development of new initiatives within Sport Manitoba's annual business plan.
MAPS initiatives are consistent with Federal-Provincial/Territorial Priorities for Collaborative Action 2007-2012 aimed at advancing the goals of Canadian Sport Policy.

| ...2012 Community Sport Development Grants Manual Includes the Following Grants:
Athlete Skill Development Clinics
Funding of up to $300 is available to a community sport partner working with a Provincial Sport Organization for hosting a skill development clinic targeted at youth. Remote communities are eligible for a grant of up to $500. Funding is cost-shared between the community and Sport Manitoba. Communities are eligible to receive one grant per sport annually.
