Sport Manitoba & MSSA team up to recognize the best in Amateur Sport

Sport Manitoba and Manitoba Sportswriters and Sportscasters Association (MSSA) are partnering to celebrate the best athletes in Manitoba.

For the past 30 years, Sport Manitoba has been selecting the top youth athletes in the province. For the past 60 years, the MSSA has selected the top athletes (all ages) in Manitoba. These awards have been presented at separate events. This year Sport Manitoba and MSSA will be combining their efforts and partnering to have one cohesive event that celebrates sport in Manitoba. To reflect this sentiment, MSSA will be integrating their award presentations into the annual Night of Champions, presented by Manitoba Chicken. Sport Manitoba and MSSA want to recognize accomplishments in sport across the spectrum and feel that doing so in one event creates stronger bonds throughout the sport community.

“We believe partnering with Manitoba Sportswriters and Sportscasters Association is a great way to bring Manitoba’s sport community together in one night of celebration,” says Laurel Read, Interim CEO of Sport Manitoba.

Newly elected MSSA president Terry Frey of The Carillon in Steinbach added, "After 60 years of honouring Manitoba's top athletes and teams at an annual awards banquet, we as Manitoba sports journalists are pleased that we are able to partner with Sport Manitoba to continue to recognize Manitoba's outstanding athletes.  We look forward to the upcoming celebration in April that will honour all of the province's noteworthy athletes and events, in partnership for the first time with Sport Manitoba."
