Sport Manitoba offers a wide range of developmental grants that facilitate the growth of athletes, coaches and officials at the community level.

Assistance provided by Sport Manitoba focuses on participants who are being introduced to sport and those who are looking to take their development to the next step.

Eligibility and Criteria

2010-2011 Community Sport Development Grants Manual Includes the Following Grants:

NEW FOR 2010!!! Planning Support for Sport Clubs & Community Sport Partners

Funding of up to $300 is available to a community sport partner working to develop an LTAD plan, based on their sport's CS4L Model for the progressive skill training and development of their athletes.

Athlete Skill Development Clinics

Funding of up to $300 is available to a community sport partner working with a Provincial Sport Organization for hosting a skill development clinic targeted at youth. Remote communities are eligible for a grant of up to $500. Funding is cost-shared between the community and Sport Manitoba. Communities are eligible to receive one grant per sport annually.

Introduction of a New Sport

Funding of up to $300 is available to a community sport partner working with a Provincial Sport Organization for the introduction of a new sport through establishment of a team, club or league in the community. Remote communities are eligible for a grant of up to $500. Funding is cost-shared between the community and Sport Manitoba. Communities are eligible to receive one grant per sport annually.

Bingo Allocations

Funding of up to $3,000 is available to a community sport partner working with a Provincial Sport Organization through a Sport Manitoba allocated bingo event. Funding must be used to support the hosting of a major event or championship or for sport development opportunities that leave a sport or equipment legacy in the community.

Special Initiative Funding

Funding of up to $500 is available to a community sport partner working with a Provincial Sport Organization for a project, activity or event that would assist in the development of community based sport and is not eligible under any other grant. Projects should contain an educational component. Funding is cost-shared between the community and Sport Manitoba. Communities are eligible to receive one grant annually.

Hosting Regional Championships

Funding of up to $300 is available to community sport partners for the hosting of a regional championship for youth athletes that leads to a sanctioned Provincial Championship, supports Manitoba Games competition in a non-Games year or supports regional team selection for the Manitoba Indigenous Summer Games. League competitions are not eligible for assistance. Funding is cost-shared between the community and Sport Manitoba.

Travel Assistance

Individual sport athletes trying out for a Provincial Team or participating in a sanctioned Provincial or Manitoba High Schools Athletic Association Championship are eligible to receive assistance of up to $100. (NOTE: Athletes trying out for the Provincial Team must be formally invited to the try-out by their Provincial Sport Organization.)

Teams participating in a sanctioned Provincial or Manitoba High Schools Athletic Association Championship are eligible to receive assistance of up to $300. (NOTE: There must be an opportunity for the winners of the provincial championship to advance to a Western Canadian or National Championship event.)

Individual sport athletes and teams from remote communities traveling to events in the Norman Region are eligible to receive up to $100 for individuals and $300 for teams.

Individual athletes and teams are eligible to receive one grant per sport annually.

Assistance of up $200 is available to coaches attending recognized National Coaches Certification Clinics (Theory or Technical), to coaches participating in Coaching Manitoba or PSO sponsored seminars/conferences and volunteer officials attending recognized Officials Certification Clinics.
