Sport Manitoba Volunteers Receive Brandon Mayor's Volunteer Service Awards
Bernie Chrisp and Wendy Flannigan, two long-serving sport volunteers in the Westman region of the
province, have been recognized for their many efforts with a City of Brandon Mayor’s Volunteer Service Award. The awards were presented by Brandon Mayor Dave Burgess at a reception on May 7th.
Chrisp’s award came in the Recreation/Sport category for an individual, youth, group/organization or business that has volunteered their time to organize and/or operate programs dealing with recreation or sport.
Chrisp has been the long-serving Chair of the Manitoba Games Council and is a member of Sport Manitoba's Board of Directors. He was the Chair of the Canadian Special Olympics Summer Games and has been a volunteer with every major curling event that Brandon has hosted.
Flannigan was recognized in the Social/Community Service category for an individual, youth, group/organization or business that has volunteered their time in the area of social or community service. This can be anything from running the local community centre or programs within the community to assisting a local service club and special associations with social projects.
Flannigan is the Vice-Chair of the Westman KidSport Committee which oversees fundraising and the administration of funds in Westman to help offset the cost of participation in sport for children of financially challenged families.
