Three Manitoba Athletes Awarded Canada Games/FAST Fund Grants
The Canada Games Council (CGC) and Foundation for Athlete Sport Training (FAST) are proud to announce that three Manitoba athletes have been selected as recipients of a $2,000 grant for athletic training:
- Jeff Thomson (Baseball)
- Jon Kasdorf (Vollyball)
- Ashley Voth (Volleyball)
All three were recent nominees for Sport Manitoba's Youth Athlete of the Year Awards with Ashley Voth being selected Manitoba's Female Youth Athlete of the Year for 2004. All three are currently on the training rosters for their sport for Team Manitoba's participation in the 2005 Canada Summer Games in Regina this August.
The Selection Committee reviewed nearly 1,000 applications to determine which 75 applicants from across Canada were the most promising next generation national team athletes. A variety of criteria were used to select the successful candidates. Some of these measures included provincial and national rankings in Canada and National Sport Organization ranking over the past two competitive seasons and a clear demonstration of athlete's commitment to excellence through a proper training and competition program.
All provinces and territories were guaranteed at least two grants (one male and one female) with the number of grants distributed evenly between female and male athletes.
