Manitoba Games To Be Power Smart - Hydro Becomes New Title Sponsor
Winnipeg - The Manitoba Games Council today announced a new partnership with Manitoba Hydro that sees the energy utility become title sponsor of the next three provincial games.
The first Power Smart Manitoba Winter Games will take place in Beausejour next March 6th to 12th, 2006. Hydro’s commitment extends to subsequent games in 2008 (summer) and 2010 (winter).
"Manitoba Hydro has always been at the forefront in its support of sports and other community events," said Bernie Chrisp, Chair of the Manitoba Games Council. "As our new title sponsor, we’re excited to take our relationship with Hydro to a new level of support."
Manitoba Hydro has been a part of the Manitoba Games for well over a decade coming on board as a presenting sponsor in 1992.
"We are proud to be a partner in an event that means so much to the people of Manitoba," said Manitoba Hydro President and CEO Bob Brennan. "Part of Manitoba Hydro’s mandate is to provide leadership in community activities and programs. The Power Smart Manitoba Games are a wonderful opportunity for us to do so by supporting amateur sports, youth and our community."
The Power Smart Manitoba Games are a developmental program of Sport Manitoba that features competition in selected sports for participants between the ages of 12 and 21 and community capacity building through facility and volunteer development.
The Games are held every two years alternating between summer and winter sports. Participants first compete at the regional level with winners advancing to provincial finals.
