Increased KidSport Funding Responds to Community Needs
Winnipeg – KidSport Winnipeg has money to spend…over $65,000.00 to be exact. After last year’s successful Sport Expo, KidSport Winnipeg finds itself in a position to be of even greater assistance to the community according to Bill Morrissey, Co-Chair of the KidSport Winnipeg Committee.
"In past we have been challenged because demand has come close to outweighing supply,” said Morrissey. “The overwhelming success of Sport Expo however and the revenue that was raised last year enables us to respond to the needs of financially challenged families, get more kids off the sidelines and into sport activities. But we need them to apply.”
With the application deadline approaching, Morrissey is encouraging families or anyone who knows of a family who can use some assistance to offset the cost of registration fees to contact KidSport Winnipeg.
"Recently a lot of media attention has been paid to situations where families are not able to take advantage of the benefits of sport and physical activity for their children because of cost,” added Morrissey. “We want the community to know that KidSport Winnipeg has the resources to help them.”
The deadline for application in Winnipeg for summer sport programs is April 30th with subsequent application dates of July 15th for the fall and October 15th for winter sport programs.
KidSport is a national charity administered by Sport Manitoba designed to help underprivileged kids participate in sport by removing the barriers of cost and equipment. In addition to providing funding to offset the cost of registration fees, KidSport collects and distributes donated equipment for all sports.
KidSport Winnipeg would like to help as many Winnipeg families as they can. If you know of a child who would benefit – call 925-5907 – So All Kids Can Play.
