Flin Flon to Host Norman Winter Games - Calm Air Joins Games Family
Sport Manitoba Norman Region today announced Flin Flon will host the 2007 Norman Winter Games from February 23 rd to 25 th, 2007. It was also announced that Calm Air is the Presenting Sponsor.
“Flin Flon is excited to be this year’s host and we look forward to the community making the Games a wonderful experience for participants from across the region,” said Lindsay Mutcheson, Sport Manitoba Norman Regional Coordinator. “We are also pleased to partner with Calm Air whose sponsorship will enhance the Games for all involved.”
The annual Norman Winter Games presented by Calm Air provide an opportunity for residents of Northern Manitoba to participate in a multi-sport environment. They help prepare younger participants for other major events like the Power Smart Manitoba Games and Manitoba Indigenous Games. The Games attract upwards of 600 participants each year.
While the primary focus of the Games is on youth and development, the Games will feature competition in eight sports for both youth and adults. Games sports, ages and categories include:
- Male Hockey - Pee Wee 12 and under
- Male Old Timers Hockey - 35 and over
- Male Basketball - 18 and over
- Co-ed Volleyball - 16 and over
- Male and Female Curling - Junior 11 to 17
- Mixed Curling - Adult 18 and over
- Male and Female Badminton - Youth 10 to 17; Adult 18 and over
- Male and Female Cross Country Ski - Youth 10 to 17; Adult 18 and over
- Special Olympics Bowling
- Male and Female Darts - Youth 12 to 17; Adult 18 and over
The deadline for participants to enter is January 26 th, 2007. There is a registration fee of $20 per participant. Registration forms are available from Sport Manitoba’s Norman Region offices in The Pas and Thompson, your local recreation office, or can be downloaded from the Sport Manitoba website at: www.sportmanitoba.ca/communitysports/normangames.php
