Palamar Named KidSport Manitoba Chair
Winnipeg - Sport Manitoba is pleased to announce the appointment of prominent Winnipeg lawyer Jeff Palamar as Chair of the KidSport Manitoba provincial committee. In his position, Palamar will guide a volunteer Board of Directors that oversees planning and development of KidSport fundraising initiatives and activities throughout the province.
"I'm looking forward to working with KidSport to help raise awareness about the need to help Manitoba's underprivileged kids,” said Palamar. “Participating in sport can bring so much to a child and it's a great feeling to know that KidSport is there, helping to ensure that no child in Manitoba who wants to play sports has to settle for watching from the sidelines."
A partner with Taylor McCaffrey LLP, Palamar has practiced law since 1986 primarily in the areas of employment, labour and administrative law, including human rights, sports, Aboriginal and civil litigation.
He has provided counsel on an ongoing basis to Sport Manitoba and has been called upon by various sports organizations with respect to employment, administrative and sport related matters. Through the Canadian Sport Centre Manitoba, Palamar has recently helped create a legal assistance program for athletes. He has acted on behalf of internationally ranked athletes in their appeals with the Canadian Centre for Ethics in Sport on suspensions for failed drug tests and has been honorary legal counsel for Team Canada Volleyball since 1997.
As a volunteer, Palamar has been a long-time supporter of the Terry Fox Foundation, the Cerebral Palsy Association, the Manitoba Marathon, the Great Grain Relay, the United Way, and numerous other charitable causes, related to law, sport and other causes.
KidSport is national charity administered by Sport Manitoba that helps to remove barriers and assist less fortunate children participate in sport - so all kids can play. KidSport raises funds through corporate donations, foundation grants, planned giving and special activities and events. Funds that are raised help offset the cost of participant registration fees for community based sport programs.
