PRINCESS ROYAL PAN AM SCHOLARSHIP RECIPIENTS ANNOUNCED
Archer Kevin Tataryn of Stonewall and Golfer Jill Hardy of Winnipeg have been selected as this year's recipients of the Princess Royal Pan Am Scholarship.
As a member of the national team, the 19-year old Tataryn helped Canada to a bronze medal at the 2003 World Target Championships in New York City. He was gold medallist in Individual Men's Compound at the 2003 Canada Winter Games, won the gold at the Canadian Junior Men's FITA and was undefeated winning the Men's Compound FCA Open at the Canadian National Archery Championships. Tataryn is presently enrolled in Civil/CAD Technology at Red River College.
Hardy won the 2003 CIS Canadian University Championship and has represented Canada at the World University Golf Championships twice. She is currently ranked 12th in women's golf in Canada and is 46th in the U.S. Women's Amateur rankings. The 22 -year old Hardy is also working toward her degree in Pharmacy at the University of Manitoba.
The Princess Royal Pan Am Scholarship Endowment Fund provides two annual scholarships of $3000 each to a male and female high performance athlete enrolled in a post secondary institution in Manitoba. Selection is based on an athlete's sport and academic standing.
The Princess Royal Pan Am Scholarship was established as a legacy of the 1999 Pan American Games to provide financial support for Manitoba's high performance athletes while commemorating the Manitoba visit of Her Royal Highness the Princess Royal in 1999. The scholarship is administered by Sport Manitoba.
