All-Stars Hit the Ice for KidSport

On Saturday March 15th, St. John’s Ravenscourt will be hosting their 4th Annual KidSport All Star Day. When the event began 4 years ago, it involved only SJR’s Grade 9 team and 54 kids from various teams throughout their division. Over the past three years, coaches and parents from the school have become actively involved and a feeling of “let’s do this as a community” has evolved. To date, there have been 200 players, involving almost 1000 families.

Each division of hockey at SJR will play host to all other players and families from other teams in their respective divisions. The first puck drops at 8:30 am with things scheduled to wind down around 3:30 pm. The format will be similar to the NHL All-Star game where all players will be divided into two teams to compete in a game.

”This event is for one purpose: to raise money and equipment for inner city youth. It is a really simple message and one that we will be talking to players about, “ said SJR coach and event organizer, Ray Dubois.

It’s that time of year again, for some major spring-cleaning. An equipment collection bin will be set up at the Dutton Arena from 8:00 am to 3:00 pm. Please bring any new or gently used sports equipment and show your support.

KidSport is a children’s charity administered by Sport Manitoba that provides registration fees and sports equipment for families of children who cannot afford their participation in sport.
