WINNIPEG MINOR HOCKEY TEAMS UP WITH KIDSPORT

Winnipeg – For a third straight year the fundraising efforts of the Winnipeg Minor Hockey Association are supporting KidSport.

At the association's recent annual banquet, KidSport was presented with a donation of $1,700 from funds raised by AAA teams through 50/50 draws. A raffle for an autographed and framed Minnesota Wild jersey raised additional funds that were used to purchase equipment including helmets, shin guards and elbow pads.

“We receive a significant number of requests from underprivileged kids wanting to play hockey,” said Ali Wilson, KidSport Manager for Sport Manitoba. “It's terrific to see an organization that provides youth programming put funds back into the system through KidSport to give them that opportunity.”

This year's funds will enable KidSport to help about 25 kids. In total over the last three years Winnipeg Minor Hockey has raised $5,150 for KidSport with $1,950 being donated in 2002 and $1,500 in 2003.

KidSport Manitoba raised over $125,000 and distributed over $11,000 of equipment in 2003, touching the lives of almost 2,000 kids throughout the province.. KidSport is a charity administered by Sport Manitoba that raises funds to help less fortunate kids participate in sport and collects and distributes recycled sport equipment.
