Our goals are simple - more kids playing and enjoying sport, more adults participating and getting involved and more Manitobans winning on the world stage.
In 2010, Sport Manitoba took a major step forward by developing a new home base in the Sport for Life Centre. A first in Canada, the new Sport for Life Centre at 145 Pacific Avenue in the Exchange District, is a one-stop resource for creating a healthier community by helping athletes and youth learn, grow and succeed in sport.
While the renovation of phase 1 of this 100-year old heritage building is complete, fundraising is underway to realize the full vision of phase 2 which includes the building of a training fieldhouse and new programming opportunities for our community.
New services offered via the Sport for Life Centre include:
Over 5000 square feet of state of the art equipment to support a wide spectrum of patients including athletes (amateur, high performance, recreational, etc.) and general public (return to work, repetitive strain, etc.). Sport medicine services now available to Manitobans include a sport medicine physician, physical therapy, chiropractic, athletic therapy, massage therapy, nutrition, and sport psychology.
The Manitoba Sports Hall of Fame preserves, celebrates and showcases the history and heritage of sport excellence and achievement in Manitoba. A new 3000 square foot home for the Hall of Fame and Museum is currently under construction on the main floor of the Sport for Life Centre.
Construction of Phase two includes: a track, 80 metre sprint lanes, strength, conditioning and testing areas, aerobic training centre, and a multi-purpose area which can be used as court spaces and for fitness training and workshops.
The Performance Centre will enable an integrated system of service delivery in an environment that will help ensure Manitoba’s athletes are moving toward their performance goals.
Housed on the second floor of the Sport for Life Centre, the Sport Resource Centre was developed to encourage efficient use of community resources and to promote cooperation and sharing among the sport community. The Centre includes a library (written resources and video resources) along with a computer lab available for public use and the delivery of sport education programs.
