Interlake comes out strong

By Aaron Klassen

Interlake took a commanding win in their first game at the 2016 Power Smart Manitoba Summer Games.

In a 13-2 blowout over Parkland, Interlake took the lead early on and dominated throughout.  Parkland struggled with some wild pitches, which Interlake was able to take advantage of.  Late in the game Parkland managed to rally and get a few points on the board but it was too little, too late.

Team Interlake is made up of 13 and 14-year-old athletes from Manitoba’s Interlake. The boys have played for their local community teams for several years. Many of the players have played in provincial championships and are well aware of how to compete at this level.

Interlake would go on to drop a narrow 9-8 contest against Eastman. The host team was led with two home runs.

In other round-robin results Monday, Westman was up 2-1 until the sixth inning when Winnipeg Blue brought in six runs. They went on to win 7-3. Winnipeg Gold were 6-2 champions over Central and they also beat Winnipeg Blue 12-3.

Also, Eastman beat Parkland 18-2 and Westman against Central went into extra innings.
