2010 Sport for Life Gala

At Sport Manitoba’s annual event, Botterill along with three other Manitoban Olympians in Kyle Parrott, Shannon Rempel, and Megan Imrien, were on hand for a salute honouring our Olympians.
Botterill spoke about being motivated by fellow athletes and recalled when Canada’s first gold medalist in Vancouver, mogul skier Alexandre Bilodeau, talked to all of the Canadian athletes midway through the Games about making the most of the present. 
The Olympic Salute at the Sport for Life Gala was also extended to the Manitobans that were on the support staff for Canada. But the focus of the annual awards is to recognize the best in local amateur sport, which were identified in eight different award categories.

The award winners were Chantal Vanlandeghem for female junior athlete of the year (swimming – Winnipeg, MB), Kurt Goodrich for male junior athlete of the year (football – West St. Paul, MB), Khadija Cutcher for Manitoba Lotteries female coach of the year (synchronized swimming – Winnipeg, MB), Rob Meakin for Manitoba Lotteries male coach of the year (curling – Winnipeg, MB), David Peturrson for official of the year (curling – Winnipeg, MB), Casey Stafford for Great West-Life youth volunteer of the year (Stonewall, MB), Peter Wight for Great West-Life volunteer of the year (bowling – Winnipeg, MB), and the Canada Games women’s volleyball team for Calm Air junior team of the year.
The Tom Longboat Award was also given to a pair of female and male athletes for their outstanding achievements in Aboriginal amateur sport. The winners were Brigette Lacquette (hockey – Mallard, MB) and Josh Ahmo (football – Winnipeg, MB).
