Paddlers Train in Arizonapaddling

Spring 2009

This year the Manitoba Paddling Association held their annual spring training camp at Apache Lake Resort in Phoenix, Arizona.

This was the perfect setting for the 23 high performance athletes that attended camp to focus in and hone their skills as they were surrounded by calm waters and stunning canyons.

Although the weather was beautiful and warm, athletes were not basking in the sun. Each day included 3 paddling practices averaging 40 km paddled per day.

The goal of the camp is to improve strength, technique, balance, endurance and overall performance in the 2009 paddling season.

One of the highlights of the camp was the Arizona Dragon Boat Festival which was used as a cross training event for the paddlers. paddlers

Team Manitoba, which consists of mainly youth paddlers, battled hard and after six gruelling races placed second against top university dragon boat teams from across the United States. Jerome Seremak and Jan Kruk, MPA’s provincial coaches were very proud of the teamwork and performance the team displayed at the event.

2009 Canoe Kayak spring camp attendees are home and ready to dominate this upcoming season, and look forward to representing Manitoba on the national stage.
