Coaching Manitoba Bursary
Winnipeg, MB - Coaching Manitoba, a program of Sport Manitoba, announced four student coach bursaries totaling $2,000 for the 2009-2010 academic year. Thirty-two applications were received, representing seventeen different sports being coached in twelve cities/towns in Manitoba.
This year’s recipients are:
The Silvio Sboto Memorial Rural Male Coach Award recipient is: Jean Paul Magnan (photo not available)
• Jean-Paul is assistant coach with the Manitoba U16 Lacrosse team and is involved with the Powerview high school lacrosse team.
• He will be starting his third year of school at Acadia University, where he also plays on the school lacrosse team.
The Silvio Sboto Rural Female Coach Award recipient is:
Katherine (Jenna) Unger
• Jenna coached Ringette in Stonewall this past year at the Tween A level. She hopes to be part of team Eastman for the 2010 Manitoba Winter Games as a coach.
• She will be starting her third year at the University of Manitoba this fall in Human Ecology.
The recipient of the 2009 Jeff Collins Winnipeg Male Coach bursary is:
Tyler Kohut
• Tyler is basketball coach and coached with a number of different schools and community programs this past year. He had a great opportunity last summer to coach basketball camps in China/Taiwan.
• He will be starting his forth year of the Kinesiology program at the U of Winnipeg this fall.
The recipient of the 2009 Jeff Collins Winnipeg Female Coach bursary is:
Juliana Vipond
• Juliana is a rowing coach involved with a club and school program and is the Women’s Coach for the Manitoba team heading to the 2009 Canada Games. She is currently completing her level three NCCP certification.
• She will be entering her fourth year in the Bachelor of Kinesiology program at the U of M this fall.
In August 2008, former Winnipeg Blue Bomber receiver Milt Stegall became the Canadian Football League’s all-time leader for touchdowns. To recognize his accomplishment, the Province of Manitoba and Sport Manitoba created a scholarship in his name. Recipients of this year’s two Stegall scholarships have been selected from today’s 20 foundation scholarship winners.
The presentation of two scholarships, one to a graduating high school student entering a post secondary institution, and another to a top student in their second or subsequent year in a post secondary institution will be made on July 7th at the Winnipeg Blue Bomber Stadium by Stegall. More information will be provided at a later date.
