Tammy MacDonald has immersed herself in the Canada Winter Games experience in Red Deer this week.
She’s volunteering in the athletes’ village while also cheering on her son Trent, who is a part of Team Manitoba’s men’s hockey team.
“I’m a high school principal in southern Manitoba, I only get a certain number of days off, so I thought while I was here I would volunteer some time, and it came from the fact that we ran the Manitoba Winter Games out of my school six years ago,” she said. “It was such a good experience.”
MacDonald has been all over the map with her volunteering so far, ranging from coat check to access control.
“I don’t know what tomorrow will be,” she laughed.
This is the first time MacDonald has attended the Canada Games.
“It’s absolutely wonderful. My mom is here from PEI, she flew out to watch too, so I’m super pumped about that,” she said.
She’s hoping to take in some of the other sports before the week wraps up.
“Wheelchair basketball and the short track speed skating,” she said.
