Fitness Blog: Get active this summer!

Summer is finally here, and there’s never been a better time to get active!

Physical fitness is so important for your quality of life. Not enough exercise can lead to diabetes, cancer, or cardiovascular disease, while frequent exercise can lead to a longer, healthier life, which means more activities for you with your kids and grandkids down the road.

A lot of people think becoming more active requires a major effort and time commitment, but that’s not the case at all! In fact, setting aside 30 minutes each day can make a big difference over time.Shannon

And it can be as easy as altering your everyday routine. For example, consider taking your bike or walking to work if your commute isn’t too long. If you take the bus, try getting off at an earlier stop and walking the rest of the way.

On weekends, going to the park with your family or friends is always a great option.

By making these small and simple adjustments, you’ll find that they eventually develop into habits that can make you a healthier person over time.

Summer Bootcamp

Here in our fitness centre, we’ll be doing our best to capitalize on the warmer weather. We’ll be taking our Summer Bootcamp outside again this year. This is a full-body workout aimed at improving your overall fitness level.

Summer Bootcamp is every Tuesday and Thursday. The best part is that you can either come before work or after work. If you’re an early riser, we’ll get you going at 6:15 a.m. If you like your workout later in the day, you can start at 5:45 p.m.

Weekly Member Challenge

While Summer Bootcamp is still a few weeks away, our weekly member challenge is happening right now! And there’s nothing wrong with a little competition, right? Every week we’ll put up a new exercise on our whiteboard for our members to participate in. Not a member? No problem, even if you get a drop in pass, you can still take part in the challenge.

How long can you hold a wall sit? How about a plank? Show us what you got and see how you improve the next time the challenge comes around!

Get Moving

Sure, competition is great, but don’t let that be your only motivator. The warmer weather means a great opportunity to diversify your workout. There are things you can do now that you can’t do for most of the year. Whether it’s jogging along the river or working out in your garage, you’re no longer bound to the treadmill or exercise bike.

So make sure to take advantage of these next few months, and we’ll see you around!
