The Manitoba sport scene lost a lifelong builder of athletics and physical fitness when Jim Daly passed away on May 15, 2019.

Manitoba amateur sport builder Al Miller passes away at 93

All Round Builder Al Miller was inducted into the Manitoba Sports Hall of Fame in 1995 and worked tirelessly on the amateur sport scene with the Province of Manitoba in the Sport Directorate and in the founding of the Canada Games' movement back in 1967.

Beginning in February, the Hall of Fame will be open in the evening on Wednesday and Thursday. We think this will give people a better opportunity to see our iconic museum and the amazing sports memorabilia we preserve and showcase.   NEW HOURS: Sunday: Closed

Curling Icon Passes Away

Inducted in 2009 as a Builder in Curling, Ray Turnbull passed away on October 6, 2017 at the age of 79. Known world-wide as a teacher and analyst of the game of curling, Ray was also an accomplished competitor playing lead for the Terry Braunstein team that won a silver medal at the World Curling

Legendary “On a Roll” golf icon Ted Homenuik passes away.

On Sunday, July 16, 2017 at the age of 83, the Manitoba and National golf community lost a legend. Known for dominating the Manitoba and Canadian golf scene in the 50’s, 60’s and 70’s, Ted was known as the man on a roll as he continuously won tournaments.

Extended Hours During the Canada Games

During the 2017 Canada Summer Games, the Hall of Fame Gallery will be open every day from July 29 to August 12 from 9:00am to 8:00pm, EXCEPT for the holiday long weekend from August 3-6 when we will be open 11:00am to 6:00pm.

2016 Manitoba Sports Hall of Fame Slate Announced

On November 5, 2016, five athletes, two builders and two teams will be inducted into the Manitoba Sports Hall of Fame at the 37th Annual Induction Ceremony at the Victoria Inn in Winnipeg. The 2016 inductees are:

Susan Auch from Winnipeg, Manitoba, was elected as President of Speed Skating Canada (SSC) at the Annual General Meeting of the national organization held last weekend in Ottawa.

A Manitoba soccer legend was honoured this past weekend. On Sunday, the Winnipeg Soccer Complex at 900 Waverly St. was officially renamed the Ralph Cantafio Soccer Complex.

Hart Trophy Winner Andy Bathgate Passes Away at 83

Inducted into the Manitoba Sports Hall of Fame in 1993, NHL legend Andy Bathgate passed away on February 26, 2016 at the age of 83.

2015: In Memoriam

Brian Cadle (inducted in 2005 with the Winnipeg Jets teams) passed away on November 6, 2015. Our condolences go out to his family and to the hockey community.

Hall Happenings Spring 2016

On September 26, 2015 The Manitoba Sports Hall of Fame was invited to the premiere of Made in Winnipeg: The Terry Sawchuk Origin Story, a film by local producer Danny Schur. The premiere was held on the ice at the Sawchuk Arena and Terry’s sons were on hand to celebrate the film.

Nicknamed the Whirling Dervish Wally Stanowski was part of the legendary 1942 Toronto Maple Leafs team that became the first NHL squad to overcome a 3-0 defifict in a Stanley Cup final and win the title.

Curling Builder Passes at age 96

Joan Whalley, a pioneer for female curling in this country, has passed away at age 96. The Hall of Fame learned of her recent passing from a Kent Morgan article published June 24, 2015 in the Sou'Wester.
