Gallery Assistant

The Manitoba Sports Hall of Fame, a program of Sport Manitoba, is hiring a casual Gallery Assistant to be responsible for event coordination in our Gallery, and provide support to staff as required. This position will appeal to you if you are passionate about events and sports history.

 

Overview

The incumbent will average 7-10 hours per week at the Manitoba Sports Hall of Fame. Time will shift based on the event schedule and work-intensive times of the year. Evening and weekend availability is important for this position.

The Gallery Assistant will provide event coordination services to clients renting our 3,000-square-foot area inside the Sport Manitoba facility (145 Pacific Avenue). Duties will include setting up and tearing down tables and chairs, audio/visual setup and execution, and other assistance as required. Specific event coverage will be arranged in concert with the Hall’s Sport Heritage Specialist.

While the primary function of the Gallery Assistant will be in event coverage, the individual will also be part of planning and executing Hall of Fame strategies and internal events, including the annual Induction Ceremony, the Winnipeg Whisky Festival, and others.

 

Role and Responsibilities

Event Management
  • Manage events for clients, including setup, operation, and teardown of their event. Minor clean-up following the event may be required.
  • Set up and assist in Audio/Visual (AV) needs, including operating projector and microphone.
  • Answer guest questions on additional rental opportunities.
  • Complete payments during the event as required.

 

Internal Event Planning

Assist the Sport Heritage Specialist in planning and executing internal events and fundraisers. Duties may include:

  • Meeting attendance and administration, including minutes and presentations
  • Strategic Planning and execution
  • Fundraising and sponsorship, including cold calls.

 

Skills and Abilities

  • Customer service experience required, event management experience an asset
  • Timeliness and organizational skills required.
  • Availability during evenings and weekends.
  • Ability to lift and/or carry up to 30 lbs.
  • Basic audio / visual knowledge is preferred but not required.
  • Fundraising and/or sales experience an asset.
