Team Manitoba Mission Staff

Mission staff volunteers work with Team Manitoba’s staff to ensure preparations are in place for peak podium performances and a successful 2023 Canada Games. This is a tremendous opportunity to contribute to Manitoba’s sport delivery system.

You will provide support to Provincial Sport Organizations, athletes, and coaches/managers leading up to and during the Canada Games in operations, management, and communications, and to Team Manitoba’s committees. This requires a dedicated commitment as you will attend pre-Games meetings, practices and/or tournaments, team events, and attend the Games.

Interested candidates should possess the following attributes:

  • Willingness to make a dedicated 11-month commitment to the program
  • Thrives in a fast-paced multi-faceted environment for extended periods with limited down time
  • Knowledge of the sport delivery system, high-performance sport
  • Experience as a volunteer, preferably in sport 
  • Strong interpersonal, communication and customer service skills
  • Strong organizational, problem-solving and multitasking skills
  • Ability to work independently and as a supportive team player
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Must be 18 years of age or older
  • Must be able to provide proof of COVID-19 vaccination 

Though this is an unpaid position, you will be reimbursed for approved expenses for use of personal vehicle, cell phone, Games-time accommodations, and meals, and your Team Manitoba clothing. In this role, you can develop new skills, meet new friends, and experience the behind-the-scenes work a team puts into attending a multi-sport Games. You’ll travel, work with experts in sport, and support Manitoba’s next generation of champions.

Mission Staff Meetings

All mission staff are required to attend the following events where we will discuss ongoing responsibilities and expectations, Host Society updates, and participate in interactive team-building activities. 

  • Mission Staff Virtual Intro Meeting: December 9, 2021
  • Mission Staff Retreat #1:  March 11 – 12, 2022
  • Mission Staff Virtual Meeting:  June 7, 2022
  • Mission Staff Virtual Meeting:  October 4, 2022
  • Mission Staff Retreat #2:  November 18 – 20, 2022
  • Final Mission Staff Meeting:  February 7, 2023

 

Sport Meetings

Sport Manitoba will assign each mission staff to one sport per week of the Games based upon their sport experience and skillset. Mission staff should have ongoing communication with their sport’s coaches/managers, as they will be the liaison between Sport Manitoba and their sport. 

Sport-specific meetings will be coordinated by Sport Manitoba staff and will include mission staff, coaches and managers, as well as a Provincial Sport Organization (PSO) representative.

  • Sport-Specific Meeting #1: April 2022
  • Sport-Specific Meeting #2: September 2022
  • Sport-Specific Meeting #3: December 2022
  • Parent Meeting (once team is named): January/February 2023
  • Coach/Manager/PSO/Mission Staff #2: January 31, 2023

 

Post-Games

We encourage you to share your thoughts on the overall Games experience in an online survey once the Games are over, so we can take your feedback and strive to consistently improve our program. We will host a mission staff wind-up to celebrate, give away prizes, and say thank you for your participation.
