It’s our favourite time of year here in our Sport Manitoba Coaching offices…National Coaches Week!
This is a Canada-wide celebration of all the great coaches we have in sport. This year is the 5th annual.
My hope for this week is that everyone, whether you are involved in sport or not, understands the impact that coaches have on their athletes.
I talk to athletes all the time, and one of the common things I hear when I ask them about their coaches, is the positive influence that they have on their lives. The athletes build confidence and other life skills through their experiences with their coaches.
As somebody who has coached many sports for 28 years, I understand the sacrifices that coaches make for little to no pay. In Manitoba approximately 80-90 per cent of coaches are volunteers.
Sport Manitoba Coaching is offering coaching certification courses through out the week for any coach looking to build on their skills and knowledge.
Many of the courses are free. You can check them out on our website here.
And while many of the coaches we recognize work in amateur sport, I’d also like to encourage all professional teams in Manitoba to get involved in the week!
National Coaches Week has grown every year since its inception, so let’s keep the momentum going.
Get out there and thank your coach. And be sure to use #ThanksCoach and tag Sport Manitoba on social media!
