Gibb takes Three Home-Gold Medals for Team North

By Ben Sewell

In the first day of the swimming competitions at Thompson’s Norplex Pool, 14 year-old Jarvis Gibb of Team North made himself known as fierce competition in the boys, ages 13 - 14 category. Gibb tore through the water in four different races, and achieved gold in the 50-metre freestyle, 50-metre breast stroke, and the 100-metre individual medley.

Gibb also received a bronze medal as part of the swimming relay with Team North.

Gibb, from The Pas, Manitoba,  stood proud on the podium as he received each of the four medals, a huge accomplishment for himself and Team North.

Gibb trains about eight hours a week with The Pas Roadrunner Swim Club, and explained that the training was important to his triumphs today.  ‘A lot of hard work, and I’ve been working on my turns more, because they weren’t as good. Developing better turns has given me a huge advantage.’

Gibb explained that the butterfly stroke is his best skill set, but the breast stroke is his favourite. He has been racing for about four years.
