Opening Ceremonies

Opening Ceremonies Kick off Games

Opening ceremonies kick off Games In a night that featured music, dancing, success stories, and of course a torch and cauldron, Sunday evening’s Opening Ceremonies saw over 700 of Manitoba’s finest young athletes gather outside the Steinbach Regional Secondary School to celebrate the official start of the 2016 Power Smart Manitoba Summer Games in Steinbach.

As the province’s largest ongoing multi-sport event, these Games will feature 1,700 athletes, coaches and managers competing in 12 different sports throughout August 7-13, and with Phase 1 beginning Monday morning, the Opening Ceremonies was an opportunity for athletes to stay loose and be inspired the night before competition heats up.

You represent the future of sport in Manitoba, and the next wave of excellence that we look forward to cheering for, not only at these Games but in future national and international stages, said Sport Manitoba Interim CEO Laurel Read, reminding athletes of the many success stories of Power Smart Manitoba Games alumni, like Sam Renooy (ringette), a two-time Manitoba Games athlete, Canada Games gold medalist and world champion who joined a team of Eastman athletes in the torch-lighting ceremony.
