Central Comes on Strong

By Aaron Klassen

Interlake’s winning streak came to an end with Central’s win in the softball gold medal game with a score of 7-5.

Interlake scored three runs in the bottom of the first inning to get things started. Central replied with a double by Paige Shwaluk which brought in two runs. Central would go on to score three more runs in the second inning.

The next inning would go scoreless and each team would post one run a piece in the fourth. By the end of the sixth inning Central was up two runs on Interlake. Interlake held Central to seven in the final inning and attempted a rally in their last-at-bat. With bases loaded and one out, Interlake would fly out in center and get called out for interference from a runner, leaving Central the champions.

In bronze medal play, Winnipeg Blue beat Winnipeg Gold 9-2. Blue scored early in the second inning with one run and then posted six runs in the third. Gold held them there and managed to get two runs in the fifth, but Blue would answer back with two more runs in the sixth, clinching the bronze medal.
