Sport Manitoba Training Days are inclusive sport development days that unite coach education and training sessions, athlete testing combines, sport showcases, keynote speakers, and so much more into one full day, or weekend of activities. Training Days are open to athletes aged 12+, coaches, team management staff/volunteers, and parents.

Basic Taping 1 Workshop – for coaches
6:30 p.m.- 9:30 p.m.
FREE
Taping 1 is an excellent course for a coach or team manager. This FREE course focuses on general taping skills and considerations and includes a practical basic taping skills component as well as taping techniques for the ankle, wrist, fingers, and thumb. Participants should wear clothes that can expose their wrists, elbows, ankles, and knees. All supplies will be provided.

Advanced Taping Workshop (pre-requisite Basic Taping 1) – for coaches
9:00 a.m. – Noon
$10
Techniques included in this advanced workshop: taping for the knee, elbow, and Achilles, tensor wrap techniques for the hamstring, quad, and groin, and traditional taping applications with kinesio tape for the shoulder and the knee. Participants should wear clothes that can expose their wrists, elbows, ankles, and knees (ie loose pants they can roll to or above the knee). All supplies will be provided.

Strength and Conditioning 101 – for coaches
9:00 a.m. – Noon
$10
A must-have for competitive coaches, this three-hour dynamic and interactive introductory workshop will teach you how to prevent injuries and increase athlete performance through proven resistance training tools.

  • Proper warm-ups and movement preparation
  • Basic lifts
  • Stability training
  • Core training
  • Proper cooldowns including aerobic movement, stretching, foam rolling, and trigger pointing

The course is part lecture, but mostly is taught with the participants actively performing the exercises being discussed and taught. All participants should be prepared to move.

Athlete Nutrition: for athletes, parents, and coaches

Jennie Cowan is a dietitian working in Swan River, MB. Having a sport nutrition plan is an important part of high-performance sport and Jennie loves working with athletes, coaches and parents of athletes to fuel powerful performances! 

  • The ABC’s of sport nutrition
  • Fueling needs before during and after exercise
  • Eating well while eating out, including healthy choices for travelling 
  • Travelling solutions, hotel cooking 101
  • Fluid, carbohydrate and protein needs
  • Common questions answered: supplements, popular diets etc.

Athlete Combine

Combines are open to athletes aged 12+ from any sport wanting to challenge themselves in an environment similar to fitness testing they will encounter as they progress to club, Provincial, University/College, or National teams. More information
