Team Manitoba Update

Kyla Roy captured bronze in female triathlon giving Team Manitoba its first medal at the Canada Summer Games.

First Manitoba Medals on Day Three

Manitoba’s medal count heated up along with the temperature today as a pair of individual athletes captured bronze medals to get the host province on the board. Female triathlete Kyla Roy and Brooke-Lynn Boyd competing in female javelin each won bronze in their events. Female diving pair Alyssa Gauthier and Mara George also finished just shy of the podium in 3-metre synchronized diving. Elsewhere, action continued today for Team Manitoba on the ball diamond, soccer pitch, beach volleyball courts, and on the water.

Kyla Roy was Team Manitoba’s first medal winner this morning, finishing third in female triathlon with a time of 1:05:22 at Birds Hill Park. Younger sister Caitlyn Roy also competed in the event and finished seventh. In male triathlon, Raphael Armour-Lazzari was Manitoba’s top finisher with a ninth-place effort.

Manitoba captured its first medal in athletics in the very first event at University of Manitoba Stadium today. Brooke-Lynn Boyd finished third in female javelin with a toss of 43.32 metres. Male decathlon began today with the remaining five stages scheduled for tomorrow. Through five events, Jackson Penner of The Pas remains in contention at sixth place.

Team Manitoba dove into competition at Pan Am Pool with three pairs competing in the 3-metre synchro competitions. One of the two female duos, Alyssa Gauthier and Mara George, finished just off the podium in fourth. Meanwhile the male duo, featuring Manitoba's youngest athlete in 11-year-old Attila Bernatsky, finished in 12th.

Through four games at Sargent Park Beach Volleyball Complex, the male pairing of Ben Hooker and Daniel Thiessen have not lost a single set. The duo scored straight set wins over Yukon and Saskatchewan today. In the female bracket, twins Josie and Kearley Abbott improved to 2-0 with a win over Nova Scotia.

Playing in the home of the Winnipeg Goldeyes while live on TSN, Manitoba’s baseball team at Shaw Park scored a 10-4 win over Prince Edward Island improving the host team’s record to a perfect 4-0 during round robin play. Their final round robin game falls tomorrow versus Ontario, 4 p.m. at Elmwood Giants Field. In softball, the male team played a pair of games at John Blumberg Softball Complex dropping games to New Brunswick and Ontario.

After opening their Canada Games schedule with a 3-2 win over New Brunswick last night, Team Manitoba's female soccer team played to a 2-2 draw with Nova Scotia. The result places them second in the three-team pool and sets Manitoba up in a quarterfinal matchup with Alberta tomorrow, 4:30 p.m. at Ralph Cantafio Soccer Complex.

Sailing continued on Lake Winnipeg today where Manitoba participated in Day Two of competition. Each category will see three more days of races before final standings are awarded.
