Cross Country Ski Brothers Bonding at 2019 CWG

Team Manitoba’s cross country ski coach and wax technician are the Wintoniw brothers. Coach Tim is leading Manitoba’s Canada Games team for the third time, and wax tech Steven has the best haircut.

They both started skiing in 1991 in Winnipeg, and soon after both competed at the Canada Winter Games. Steven competed in 1999 in Corner Brook, and Tim competed in 2003 in Bathurst-Campbellton and moved on to coach Manitoba’s 2011, 2015, and this year’s cross country teams.

"I’m super pumped to be back working with the Manitoba team and reconnecting with athletes I have coached over the years and see how they have matured as athletes," said coach Wintoniw.  "It's also great being in Red Deer to be on the trails I raced on when I was in university and to see how much work has been put into them.”

The brothers are the founders of the Downtown Nordic Ski Club in Winnipeg, the largest group of rebels-without-a cause-skiers in the country and world domination is their goal. Steven’s three kids have joined him and the ski-rebel cause while Tim’s dog lovingly chases him on the ski trails.
