More Medals In the Pool

While rain made for a difficult day in several Canada Games events today, Manitoba swimmers found more success in the water racing to another two medals at Pan Am Pool. Oksana Chaput and Sam Currie, who each earned gold medals on Tuesday, respectively earned silver and bronze in the pool today.

Team Manitoba earned three gold medals in the pool today with first-place finishes by female swimmers Sam Currie, Quinlan Roberts, and Oksana Chaput. Currie and Roberts finished first in a pair of Special Olympics races while Chaput swam to gold in the female 100-metre freestyle final.

Team Manitoba athletes made their mark paddling to bronze and silver medals on the Red River today. The pair of medals earned in canoe kayak raises Manitoba’s medal count at the Canada Summer Games to 20.

Team Manitoba adds eight medals

By the time all events had ended today, Manitoba added three bronze, four silver, and a gold to their medal count which now sits at 10. Team Manitoba baseball also earned a shot at gold with a 1-0 win over Alberta in their semifinal matchup.

Manitoba Dealt Difficult Defeats on Day Five

Several contests went down to the wire for Team Manitoba today with mixed results for the hosts. Some resulted in wins while others ended in a heart-wrenching loss. Manitoba’s male basketball team won in overtime and the female soccer team scored a late winner in a 2-1 final. Meanwhile, in beach volleyball, both the male and female teams were edged in the deciding sets of their respective games versus British Columbia, dashing both teams chances for a medal.

Over $20,000 in academic scholarships were presented today at the Canada Games Sport for Life Centre. The presentations included the Manitoba Foundation for Sport Scholarships, Bud Tinsley Sport Leadership Scholarship, Coaching Manitoba Bursaries, Princess Royal Pan Am Scholarships and MSSA Scholarships. Sport Manitoba also announced a new Scholarship.
