Team Manitoba Bringing Home 25 Medals from 2019 Canada Winter Games

March 2, 2019 - Red Deer, Alberta – After two weeks of competition, Team Manitoba finished off the 2019 Canada Winter Games strong with 25 medals: 9 gold, 7 silver, and 9 bronze.

At the last Canada Winter Games in 2015, Team Manitoba went home with 16 total medals, six gold, three silver, and seven bronze. 

In the race for the Canada Games' Centennial Cup, Team Manitoba placed second, as the second most-improved team from the last Winter Games in 2015, trailing only behind the host province, Alberta.

Austin Taylor Flag BearerArcher Austin Taylor (Winnipeg) was Team Manitoba’s flag bearer for the Closing Ceremonies of the 2019 Canada Winter Games in Red Deer, Alberta.

Taylor won two medals these Games, a gold in the individual male compound event and a silver in the team mix compound event with teammate Bryanne Lameg.

18-year-old Taylor started in archery five years ago. He's the reigning Canadian junior-aged outdoor target archery and field archery champion, and set a Canadian record in field archery at the national championship in Nova Scotia in August of 2018. In the last year, he won second place at the NFAA Vegas Shoot in the Championship Young Adult category, won the Alberta Summer Classic, and won a bronze medal in team play at the World Archery Indoor Championship.

Taylor has a busy year ahead, with appearances slated at the World Archery Senior Championship in the Netherlands in June and the World Archery Youth Championship in Madrid in August.
