Leading up to the 2023 Canada Winter Games, we are featuring the dedicated coaches who spend countless hours giving back to sport. Let’s get to know hockey coach (m) Taras McEwen.

How long have you been coaching this sport? 

10 years

 

What is your favourite coaching memory?

My favourite coaching memory would be when I got my first coaching job with the Ochapowace Junior B Thunder in Saskatchewan. I worked alongside Evan Taypotat who is a very important mentor for my coaching career and someone who taught me a lot.

 

Who is your role model in sport?

My dad, Brad McEwen.

 

What does a typical practice look like for your team?

I like to pace my practices and make sure we have a consistent competitive level throughout.

 

What do you look for in a Canada Games athlete?

We always want good people who will play in any sort of role and do what it takes to win with Team Manitoba. 

 

What are the team goals for the 2023 Canada Games?

Win gold!
