Patrick Jebbison ( Athlete – Basketball)

Patrick Jebbison was born in 1964, and grew up in the greater Toronto area. At a young age, he showcased exceptional talent as an athlete, especially in basketball. He starred at Martin Grove Collegiate and became one of the most sought after recruits from highschool.

It was the University of Brandon Bobcats that won him over and in 1984/85, where he played his rookie season. In his second season, he made exceptional strides, making the GPAC second all-star team and won the Bobcats’ Most Improved Player Award. He was an excellent rebounder, posting an average of eight per game and shot the lights out with an extraordinary high field goal percentage of 60.5 per cent, scoring on average 16.6 points per game.

In his third season, Patrick broke out in a big way. He helped lead his team to its first-ever national championship, and was selected as a co-winner of the Bobcats MVP award. He was chosen as a GPAC first team all-star, finishing the year averaging 20.7 points per game and 7.5 rebounds per game.

In his final two seasons with the Bobcats, Patrick put up even better stats and won back-to-back Mike Moser Awards. It is given to the best basketball player in the country, which he deservedly won. He was also a CIAU all-star both of these seasons, leading the Bobcats to two more national championships.

In the third and final championship, with his team leading 74-73, Patrick blocked a shot with six seconds left, capping off an amazing university basketball career.

He is already inducted into the Manitoba Basketball Hall of Fame and the Brandon University Sports Wall of Fame, so it’s only natural that his exceptional accomplishments make him an inductee into the Manitoba Sports Hall of Fame.
